Hail Seitan
Notably one of the tastiest and most popular meat substitutes, seitan is low in fat, and high in protein (please stay woke about the animal agriculture industry fueled propaganda about needing protein, you are likely getting more than enough in a normal diet).
Seitan is made from gluten, and thus--gluten free folks should stay away. Buying it prepackaged is EASIER than preparing meat, because it usually comes precooked and even pre-marinated. You can cook with ease, knowing you don’t have the same health risk as eating uncooked meat. You can add it to any meal that calls for beef or chicken, depending on which brand you buy. Our favorite brands are Blackbird Foods Seitan (you can also get their Pizza at Blackbird Pizza), Upton’s Naturals, and Sweet Earth. Next time you’re at the shops, give it a try. You might find out you like it better than the unpleasant sensation of biting into the joint of an animal while chowing down on meat.
The environment, you ask? The environmental impact of seitan is significantly lower than the environmental impact of animal agriculture. As per food print , “seitan production consumes a moderate amount of water — about 500 gallons per pound of seitan. While this is more than some other vegetarian options, it still compares favorably against meats – producing a pound of beef takes nearly 1800 gallons of water.”
According to Women’s Health, here’s a complete breakdown of seitan’s nutrition per half-cup serving, according to the USDA:

It also contains approximately 20 percent of your recommended daily allowance for iron, as well as trace amounts of calcium.
So save the earth, save the animals, consume consciously, and naturally, hail seitan as your new favorite food. The devil is in the details.
